wtAnd · Android app for webtrees
wtAnd is the native Android app for webtrees: the whole tree with life stories, map and photos, godparents and sources at the event and, with the Sammlungen module, the archive. At the archive, at the cemetery or on a visit to relatives: look up what is known, record a gravestone or a register page on the spot, and correct a date – with your data on your own webtrees server.
Version 1.55 of 18 October 2026 · free · open source (GPL-3.0) · What’s new?
The APK is signed. Outside the Play Store, Android asks once whether the browser may install apps. Android 8.0 or newer. German, English, French, Dutch and Spanish.

New in 1.33 · Five languages
Besides German, wtAnd now also speaks English, French, Dutch and Spanish. In the menu (⋮) under Language … you choose “Like the system” or a fixed language – it takes effect immediately. Date entry also understands the new languages (“vers 1850”, “3 maart 1890”), and labels from the webtrees server arrive in the chosen language.
Tree
The hourglass shows ancestors, partners, children and grandchildren, and on request also siblings and cousins. Branches can be expanded upwards. When you zoom out, a card shows less rather than smaller – first without portrait, then only the given name, finally a box in the sex color. The text stays readable.

Person
The life story as a timeline, with marriage, the births and marriages of the children, and the age at death. The relationship to yourself is shown alongside – “paternal grandfather”. Plus the family and a map of the stations of a life.
New in 1.31: godparents and witnesses. Below baptism and marriage, the godparents or witnesses are listed; anyone with their own record in the family tree can be tapped. In addition, each person shows where they themselves were a godparent or witness. Civil and religious marriage appear separately. This requires api4webtrees 1.11 on the server. Godparents are entered at the PC with wtWin.

Photos and archive
On the road at your aunt’s, photograph an old photo, choose a folder, add description, date and people – the app suggests the names from the tree. The details are written into the image file itself (EXIF/XMP). With the Sammlungen module (the collections module), the app also shows the archive: folders, thematic collections and the many pictures that hang on no person.

Editing
Add and change events, add relatives with the “+” on every card, assign photos to a person. Everything arrives as a pending change in the same webtrees installation – under its rights, moderation and rules. Moderators accept or reject changes right in the app.

Requirements
A webtrees server (2.2.x) with the api4webtrees module. webtrees has no interface for apps of its own; the module adds one without changing the webtrees core. It is listed in the official module directory.
You sign in with your normal webtrees account. The same rights and privacy rules apply as on the website – living people, restricted records, private trees. Server address, user name and session are stored, never the password. The app needs no account of its own and talks only to your own webtrees server; it does not use Google services.
Password-protected site? If your webtrees is behind the web server’s own password protection (.htaccess/.htpasswd, often set up against data-harvesting bots), enter those credentials once on the address screen (since 1.38). webtrees itself stays untouched.
For Windows, Linux and macOS
wtWin, wtTux and wtMac – charts, lists and books on the PC
The same family tree as a classic genealogy program, with printing from the ancestor chart to the local family book.
All pictures show the entirely fictional demo tree “Familie Falkenrath” (CC0), photos of unknown people from the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam (CC0). webtrees is a project by Greg Roach and contributors; wtAnd is independent of it.
